RICHARDSON, Texas – The Lone Star Conference today announce the recipients of the 2013-14 Scholar-Athletes Award as men's basketball's
Devondrick Walker and soccer's Brionne Minde pick up the recognition for A&M-Commerce.

Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.

Walker was a second-team all-Lone Star conference selection for the men's basketball team, his first such honor. He finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the league with 13.6 points per game and led the LSC with a 91.3-percent mark from the foul stripe. He also was named to the academic all-LSC team for the second time in his career, graduating in May.

Meanwhile, Minde was not only a second-team all-LSC choice for the Lion soccer team, but also the LSC Academic Player of the Year for the second straight year. She closed out her Lion career on a high note, ranking second on the team in both assists (six) and points (12), while notching three goals.

The Richardson native recorded the game-winning goal in double overtime against Ouachita Baptist (Oct. 23), while ranking second in the LSC in assists per game (0.353). She is the first two-time Academic Player of the Year in the program's history.

Besides representing each of the league's 11 member institutions, this year's recipients 14 of the 18 sports that are sponsored by the conference.
