Commerce, Texas – Former A&M-Commerce basketball standout and All-American
Darrell Williams has inked to play professional basketball in Belgium with the Verviers-Pepinster Wolves of the Basketball League Belgium (BLB) Division I (Scooore! League).
"I am very thankful to be in this position and have the opportunity to play professional basketball overseas," Williams said. "I want to thank my coaches and everyone associated with A&M-Commerce basketball for giving me the chance to make this possible."
Williams, who spent the summer playing in the NBA Summer League with the Chicago Bulls, was the Lone Star Conference's Newcomer and Player of the Year following one of the best individual seasons in Lion men's basketball history. He claimed all-region honors including the South Central Player of the Year en route to his All-American status.
He was the lone player in the LSC to average a double-double with 18.5 points per game and 12.4 rebounds per game. He finished second in the NCAA DII with 23 double-doubles and scored 20 or more points 17 times with 20 or more rebounds three times during the 2014-15 season.
The Wolves went 13-15 to finish eighth out of 10 teams a season ago and are known around the league as a premiere team to showcase young talent. The Belgian BLB is the 11th rated league in Euroleague Basketball. The team will play their first game in 2015 on October 3.
