RICHARDSON – The Lone Star Conference announced its annual Indoor Track and Field awards on Wednesday. Texas A&M University-Commerce head coach
George Pincock was named the Men's Track Coach of the Year, while
Florian Obst was named the Outstanding Male Field Athlete. Also, 24 Lions earned All-Lone Star Conference honors, with 14 men and 10 women named to the All-LSC teams.
Pincock wins LSC Men's Track Coach of the Year for the second consecutive indoor season after leading the Lions to their fourth consecutive LSC indoor championship and 23
rd overall LSC track title. This is his third LSC Coach of the Year honor including the 2017 outdoor award.
Pincock led the Lions to the nation's No. 4 ranking, three national-best marks, three LSC indoor records, and nine school records. The 4x400 meter relay,
DeVontae Steele in the triple jump and
Florian Obst in the heptathlon have the top mark in the nation. The 400 meter event group has the Nos. 2 and 3 qualifiers for this weekend's NCAA Division II National Championships, and the 200 meter and 400 meter event groups each qualified three runners to the national meet. The Lions' 11 men's national qualifiers are the fourth-most in the field.
Obst was named the USTFCCCA South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year earlier this week and adds LSC Outstanding Male Field Athlete to his list of honors. He was also the Oscar Strahan Award winner for Outstanding Male Field Athlete in the 2017 outdoor season. The senior from Emmering, Germany is ranked first nationally in the heptathlon with a score of 5,494 points, which is the 12th best score in NCAA Division II history, a Lone Star Conference record, and a school record.
He scored 23 points for the Lions at the LSC Championships, helping lead A&M-Commerce to its fourth consecutive conference indoor title. He placed in five events including the heptathlon championship, and four of the five placements were in the field events.
The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships. The second team includes athletes scoring 8-13.9 points, and the third team those scoring 6-7.9 points. Overall, 51 men and 43 women were recognized.
The Lion men had 14 all-LSC performers, with eight on the first team, while the Lion women had 10 all-LSC performers, with six on the first team.
