UCO Knocks Down 16 3 Pointers in 103-91 Win Over Texas A&M University-Commerce
Central Oklahoma knocked down 16 3 pointers, including 11 in the second half to defeat Texas A&M University-Commerce, 103-91 on Wednesday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
Central Oklahoma (16-4, 5-0 LSC North) found itself behind eight points, 68-60 with 12:24 to go, until the Bronchos scored 13 of the next 18 points to tie the game at 73. With the game tied, Eric Cazenave hit a jumper, an offensive rebound and ensuing dunk by Dauntae Williams put the visitors ahead for the remainder of the contest.
The dunk energized the visitors as they hit seven more three pointers down the stretch to end any chances for an A&M-Commerce comeback. Shane Carroll hit 3 of them and Williams and Cazenave each knocked down a pair in the process.
Texas A&M University-Commerce (15-5, 4-1 LSC North) had five players in double figures in the loss. Junior Brian Singleton scored a season-best 27 points on the strength of 5 3 pointers in the loss and he also had a team-best seven rebounds. Sophomore Brad Hambrick had 17 points, including 5 3 pointers. Senior Ronnie Morgan added 14, Preston Whitley and Cardell Hunter scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.
In the win, the Bronchos’ Dauntae Williams scored a game-high 37 points in the win. He was joined by three other teammates in double figures. Shane Carroll came off the bench to hit 21 points, all coming on seven 3 pointers. Eric Cazenave added 12 and Chris Rhymes scored 10 in the victory.
A&M-Commerce found itself behind for most of the first half until a 9-1 run, culminating in a Tyris Dowell lay up put the Lions up by 46-45 at the halftime break.
In the opening 20 minutes, both teams shot well from the field as A&M-Commerce hit 48.4% and UCO managed to hit 50%. Both teams were also prolific from the 3-point line, the Lions hit seven 3 pointers and UCO had five for themselves.
The Lions remained in the lead in the second half but it was an eight-point spurt midway through the second half that tied the game for the first time with 10:46 to go. The lead exchanged hands between the two teams and tied it again at 73 with 9:19 to go before the efforts by Cazenave and Williams put the Bronchos in front for the remainder of the contest.
The Lions are idle until next Wednesday, Feb. 3 as they travel to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to face Northeastern State at 8 p.m.
