KING, DAVIS NAMED TO CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT VI FIRST TEAM
COMMERCE, Texas -- Texas A&M University-Commerce senior forward Desmond King and junior forward Andrew Davis have both been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI first team for men's basketball, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A&M-Commerce was the only school to have two players on the team and the only school from the Lone Star Conference to be represented.
The honor is the first academic honor of King's A&M-Commerce career after receiving numerous accolades for his on-court performance. The 2011-12 Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year, King leads the Lions in both points (15.8) and rebounds (5.6) per game while ranking second in field goal percentage (55.7). He ranks third in the Lone Star Conference in points per game, 10th in rebounding, including fourth in offensive rebounds per game, and sixth in field goal percentage and had notched a pair of double-doubles on the year.
Davis earns his first Academic All-District honor after being named to both the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team and Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2011. He has become a regular in the Lion lineup, starting 19 games for A&M-Commerce and averaging career-bests in both points (6.2) and rebounds (4.9). Davis has notched single-season career highs in both categories and ranks 18th in the LSC in rebounds per game and 15th in defensive boards per game.
To be eligible for consideration for the Capital One Academic All-District Team, players must be a starter or a significant reserve for their team, have attained at least sophomore status and boast a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. The teams were voted upon by sports information directors of schools within the region, and now both King and Davis are eligible for consideration for the national Academic All-America team.
King, Davis and the rest of the Lions their quest for Allen as the 2011-12 enters into the home stretch. A&M-Commerce prepares for a home-and-home series with Texas A&M-Kingsville this weekend, beginning Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Steinke Center in Kingsville. The Javelinas then visit the Field House for an 8 p.m. tip on Monday, February 6th in a game that will be broadcast live online at FoxSportsSouthwest.com.
