A&M-Commerce Football Wraps Up Spring Practice
A sunshine splashed Memorial
Stadium provided ideal weather for the end of spring practice for
the Texas A&M University-Commerce football team.
With the team divided into two squads - blue (offense) and white
(defense), the Lions wrapped up its spring practice with a 58-play
intra-squad scrimmage. An aggressive defense throughout the
scrimmage forced five turnovers and allowed just one touchdown on
the afternoon.
A&M-Commerce utilized three quarterbacks - Adam Farkes,
Brandon Colquitt and Cal Farley - throughout the scrimmage. The
three quarterbacks found 10 different receivers on the afternoon as
the offense and the ground game saw carries split among three
runners. One of the ball carriers was Marcus Graham, who scored the
lone touchdown on the afternoon.
Among those causing havoc on the defensive side of the ball were
junior Tramaine Williams and freshman Daniel Jacobs, who were both
redshirted during the 2009 season. Williams nearly scored a
defensive touchdown early in the scrimmage, picking up a fumble and
returning it to the three-yardline. Jacobs was involved in multiple
stops throughout the scrimmage.
A&M-Commerce, which won its last five games of the 2009 season
on the way to the Lone Star Conference North title, opens the
season at home on Sept. 4 against Upper Iowa at 6 p.m. Five of the
Lions’ 11 scheduled games are set for Commerce. The Lions
will again play the Harvey Martin Classic at the Cotton Bowl in
Dallas on Sept. 11 against Angelo State.
Following the scrimmage, fans were given the opportunity to meet
the players and coaches.
