2012 A&M-COMMERCE FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
COMMERCE, Texas –- Back-to-back games in domed stadiums, including the program's first-ever game against a Division I FBS opponent, a return to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington and five home games highlight Texas A&M University-Commerce’s 2012 football schedule.
“It’s a good schedule, and its going to give us quite a challenge,” said head coach Guy Morriss. “We’ve got some solid non-conference games, and the Lone Star Conference will be just as strong as it was last year, so we’ve got our work cut out for us. But our guys are excited to get going.”
The 2012 campaign gets underway on Saturday, September 1 when A&M-Commerce hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State at Memorial Stadium. The Lions then make their first of two trips to San Antonio, facing a Division I FBS opponent for the first time in program history when it matches up against UT-San Antonio at the Alamodome on Saturday, September 8.
“This is an exciting game for A&M-Commerce football,” said Athletic Director Carlton Cooper. “Not only do we get a chance to play a Division I school in the Alamodome, but we get a chance to reach out to our strong alumni base living in the San Antonio area. It will be a memorable day for the entire Lion family.”
A&M-Commerce then makes a return trip to Cowboys Stadium for the 2012 Lone Star Football Festival on Friday, September 14, giving the Lion back-to-back games in a dome. The Lions will have a rematch with defending Lone Star Conference champion Midwestern State, kicking off at 4 p.m.
Following a bye week, the Lions return to Memorial Stadium for the 2012 installment of the Chenault Cup, hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, September 29, before making a return trip to the Alamo City for a showdown with Incarnate Word on Saturday, October 6.
Tarleton State then visits Commerce for a President’s Cup showdown with the Lions at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, October 13, followed by a trip to San Angelo for a game against Angelo State. Homecoming 2012 is scheduled for Saturday, October 27, when the Lions play host to Abilene Christian.
The 2012 season wraps up with a pair of November games, beginning with a trip to Portales, N.M., to face Eastern New Mexico, before the season finale at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, November 10 facing West Texas A&M. The game against the Buffs marks Senior Day as well as serving as the veteran’s game for the 2012 season
