TYLER RAWLINGS HONORED BY NFF GRIDIRON CLUB OF DALLAS

COMMERCE, Texas -- A&M-Commerce senior wide receiver Tyler Rawlings was one of nine Dallas-area collegiate student-athletes recognized at the 2013 National Football Foundation Gridiron Club of Dallas Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 21st.

The event, now in its fifth season, is held to recognize outstanding football student-athletes for their work not only on the field, but in the classroom as well. In addition to the collegiate players, over 50 Dallas-area high school football players were honored as well at the banquet, held at the Marriott Quorum hotel in Addison.

Rawlings spent two seasons with the Lions after transferring from Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. He played in all 20 games of the past two seasons with 17 starts, catching 72 passes for 944 yards and four touchdowns. He ranked second on the team in both receptions and yards in each of the past two seasons and was the recipient of the 2012 J.V. Sikes Award, awarded by the football coaching staff for leadership and committment to the Lion football program.

Rawlings was one of three Lone Star Conference honorees, joining Chase Hoopers of Midwestern State and Tarleton State's Cory Jackson. The remainder of the collegiate student-athletes honored consisted of Jordan Hayes (East Texas Baptist), Cale Patterson (TCU), Cameron Rogers (SMU), Lanaer Sampson (Baylor), Tim Smith (Austin College) and Nicholas Summerfield (North Texas).

Founded in 1947 with early leadership from General Douglas MacArthur, legendary Army coach Earl "Red" Blaik and immortal journalist Grantland Rice, The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame is a non-profit educational organization that runs programs designed to use the power of amateur football in developing scholarship, citizenship and athletic achievement in young people. With 120 chapters and 12,000 members nationwide, NFF programs include the College Football Hall of Fame, the NFF Scholar-Athlete Award presented by Fidelity Investments, Play It Smart, the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Alumni Association, and scholarships of more than $1.3 million for college and high school scholar-athletes.
