LIONS BREAK 300 IN FINAL ROUND OF 2011 DORNICK HILLS CLASSIC

ARDMORE, Okla. -- Paced by a 1-over 71 by freshman Marcus Sanna, A&M-Commerce finished up the final round of the Dornick Hills Classic right where it started – in 12^th place among the team standings. The Lions shoot their second sub-300 round of the season, posting a 19-over 299 over the final round to finish with an 85-over 925 at the 2011 Dornick Hills Classic.

Sanna, competing in his first collegiate tournament for A&M-Commerce used his 1-over 71 to help lead the Lions to the sixth-best team score over the final round. He tied for 33^rd in the overall individual standings with a 21-over 231, joined by freshman teammate Jarret Martin who shot a 6-over 76 over the final 18 holes.

The freshman duo finished two shots better than sophomore Patrick Russo’s 23-over 233 after Russo posted a 7-over 77 on Tuesday. Chris Leaser and Kyle Middleton rounded out the A&M-Commerce scorecard, finishing with a 25-over 235.

A&M-Commerce made up some ground on the field, finishing seven shots behind 10^th place Cameron J.V. and East Central (78-over 918), eight shots back of ninth-place Drury (77-over 917) and nine shots behind eighth-place Southeastern Oklahoma (76-over 916).

Central Oklahoma ran away with the team title, posting a 1-under 279 over the final 18 holes to finish with an 18-over 858, 26 strokes better than second-place Abilene Christian (44-over 884) and 28 shots ahead of third-place St. Edward’s (46-over 886). Arkansas-Fort Smith (55-over 895) and host Cameron (57-over 897) rounded out the top-five.

The Lions will have some time off before returning to the course at the Brian Williams Memorial in San Antonio. The opening two rounds will take place Monday, Oct. 24 with the final round on Tuesday, Oct. 25. That leads up to the Lions Fall Invitational at The Tribute Golf Club at The Colony, Texas Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
