PRIMM, Nev. -- Despite battling ferocious winds all afternoon, A&M-Commerce finds itself in first place after the opening 18 holes of the California Baptist Spring Break Collegiate at Primm Valley Golf Club. The Lions shot a 13-over 297, led by freshman Cade Grimm's career-low 1-under 70.

Grimm's 1-under 70 puts him atop the individual leaderboard as he holds a two-shot advantage over both Josh Briere and Chris Anderson of Johnson & Wales (Fla.). He leads teammate Patrick Russo (3-over 74) by four shots and is five strokes better than fellow freshman Marcus Sanna (4-over 75) as all three Lions sit among the top-10 of the individual leaderboard as Russo is tied for fourth and Sanna tied for eighth.

Freshman Jarret Martin just missed being the fourth A&M-Commerce golfer to sit among the top-20 after the opening 18 holes, sitting tied for 21st with a 7-over 78. Kyle Middleton rounded out the Lion scorecard, shooting a 10-over 81 and is tied for 34th overall.

The teams were originally scheduled to play 36 holes Monday afternoon, but with winds constant at 25 to 30 mph all afternoon, with gusts up to 55 mph, a decision was made to cut the Spring Break Collegiate down to a 36-hole tournament.

A&M-Commerce's 13-over 297 marks the third-lowest round for the Lions this season and the fourth time they eclipsed the 300-stroke mark. A&M-commerce heads into Tuesday's final round with a three-stroke lead over both Dixie State College and Johnson & Wales (16-over 300). The Lions maintain a comfortable advantage over both California Lutheran (21-over 305) and host California Baptist (22-over 306) as they seek to capture their first team title since last season's Crawford Wade Invitational at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro.

Tuesday's final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. CT. A&M-Commerce will go head-to-head with both Dixie State and Johnson & Wales, the two teams it is looking to hold off to claim the team title. Full results will be posted on LionAthletics.com as they become available.
