A&M-COMMERCE UNVEILS 2012 TRACK AND FIELD SCHEDULE
2012 A&M-Commerce Track and Field Schedule
COMMERCE, Texas –- Texas A&M University-Commerce has released its 2012 men's and women's track and field schedule as the Lions begin competition in March. The schedule is highlighted by the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships, which will be hosted by A&M-Commerce at Memorial Stadium on May 3-5, 2012.
"We have a nice balanced schedule this season," said head coach Darren Schneider. "We're going to have the opportunity to compete in some high-caliber meets where we're going up against some of the best schools and individuals in the country. We also have some meets where the whole team can have some success and gives us a chance to compete."
The Lions will host a preseason meet at Memorial Stadium on Friday, February 24 before the season-opener on March 2nd and 3rd at the Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio. A&M-Commerce then competes in the Tarleton Invitational in Stephenville on Thursday, March 8 before taking part in the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington on Saturday, March 24.
The Texas Relays, one of the sport's preeminent meets, then awaits the Lions on March 28-31 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Following the North Texas Mean Green Twilight in Denton on April 7, A&M-Commerce heads to Abilene for the McMurry Invitational.
Another of the nation's top meets is on the agenda for the Lions as A&M-Commerce travels to Walnut, Calif., for the 2012 Mt. Sac Relays April 20-21. The final tune-up before the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships will be in San Marcos as the Lions compete in the Bobcat Relays on Saturday, April 28.
The conference's best athletes will then convene on Commerce for the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships, beginning on Thursday, May 3 and concluding with the finals on Saturday evening, May 5. The Incarnate Word Last Chance meet then awaits the Lions on Thursday, May 10. The 2012 NCAA Division II Championships will be held in Pueblo, Colo., May 24-27.
The Lions are looking to build on the 2011 campaign, which saw the men and women both finish seventh at the Lone Star Conference Championships in Stephenville. Both squads return a handful of LSC qualifiers and look to make even bigger strides in 2012.
