COMMERCE, Texas – The 2012 A&M-Commerce men's track and field season got underway on the track at Memorial Stadium as A&M-Commerce played host to the Lion Preseason Invitational. 20 Lions recorded top-10 finishes on the day including 12 that placed among the top-five.
A&M-Commerce's greatest success came in the distance events where all eight competitors finished among the top-10 in their respective races. In the 800 meter, Ross Hicks placed second with a time of 1:58.78, a second ahead of teammate Joel Day who placed fourth. Tyler Hemenway placed second in the 1500 meter run (4:12.90) while Raman Singh notched a runner-up finish in the 5000 meter run (15:34.47).
In the sprints, the Lions had five different runners place in the top-10 in the 400 meter dash, including a second-place finish by Elijah Burwell (49.78), a third-place finish by Ravi Dubose (50.29) and a fourth-place finish by Hank Smith (50.60). Austin Kvapil was the top Lion finisher in the 200 meter (22.41) while the A&M-Commerce "A" and "B" relay teams finished one-two in the 4x400 meter relay.
All six competitors in the field events notched top-10 finishes, led by third-place finishes by Dubose in the triple jump (13.51m) and Daniel Dia in the hammer throw (31.79m). John David Rollins placed fourth in the long jump (6.81m) while Dia checked in at fifth in the discus (41.48).
The Lion men now prepare for a trip to San Antonio, competing in the Incarnate Word Invitational on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3. Full results will be posted as they become available at LionAthletics.com.
