SAN ANTONIO, Texas – One week after hosting its Preseason Invitational, A&M-Commerce took to the track at Benson Stadium in San Antonio, competing in the two-day Incarnate Word Invitational. A handful of Lions posted top-five finishes, finishing with nine in seven different events.
The running events were highlighted by a second-place finish by Ernest Rickett in the 400 meter dash, posting a time of 49.85. A pair of Lions finished in the top-five in the 400 meter hurdles, led by a fourth-place finish by Elijah Burwell (57.95), just ahead of fifth-place Hank Smith (58.77). Ravi Dubose also notched a top-five finish, placing fifth in the 200 meter dash (22.09).
A&M-Commerce's relay teams had strong showings, especially in the 4x400 meter relay where the Lion "A" team placed second (3:19.65), just three-tenths of a second better than the "B" team (3:19.94). A&M-Commerce also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay (42.24).
Over in the field events, A&M-Commerce's trip to the Alamo City was highlighted by Khalil Henry tying for first overall in the high jump with a leap of 1.98 meters. Anthony Harris placed third in the long jump (6.74m), just four-one hundredths of a meter further than fourth-place Charles Powell (6.70m). Daniel Dia notched a pair of top-five finishes on the weekend, placing fourth in the discus (45.65m) and fifth in the shot put (13.19m).
The Lions have a short week before returning to the track at the Tarleton State Invitational on Thursday, March 8 in Stephenville. Full results will be posted when they become available at LionAthletics.com
