CONWAY, Ark. – A&M-Commerce avoided the rains of east Texas, competing in the 2012 Hendrix Invitational in Conway. The Lions had a productive showing, seeing 14 different athletes finish among the top-five in nine different events.

A&M-Commerce's best showing came from the middle distance events where the Lions placed three runners in the top-five in both the 400 and 800 meter runs. In the 400, Ravi Dubose paced A&M-Commerce with a time of 48.98, just edging out teammates Ernest Rickett (49.10), Adam Gary (49.40) and Joel Day (49.49).

In the 800, it was Tyler Hemenway once again leading the Lion pack, notching a runner-up finish with a time of 1:57.58. He held off teammates Isaac Chelimo (1:58.54) and Ross Hicks (2:00.52), who placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Everett Wilder also notched a third-place finish in the 5000 meter run, recording a time of 15:46.41.

A&M-Commerce also made its mark in the hurdles as Demetrius Holmes placed first in the 110 meter hurdles (16.11), beating out teammate James Lundy (16.64) who finished second. Holmes also would place fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a 55.81 showing.

In the field events, a pair of Lions notched runner-up finishes in three events as Daniel Dia placed second in both the discus (41.26m) and shot put (13.06m) while Dubose placed second in the triple jump (13.89m). Khalil Henry rounded out the top-five finishes, placing third in the high jump (1.98m).

A&M-Commerce added the meet after withdrawing from the Tarleton Invitational earlier this week. The meet was schedule to be held Thursday, March 8, but inclement weather in the Stephenville area pushed the meet to Tuesday, March 6, but the Lion coaching staff opted not to participate after competing in the Incarnate Word Invitational three days earlier.

The Lions now have two weeks before returning to the track, this time making the short trip to Arlington for the Bobby Lane Invitational on Saturday, March 24. The meet will be held at Maverick Stadium on the campus of UT-Arlington, with the finals set for Saturday afternoon.
