SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- A&M-Commerce made the most of its final event of the regular season as eight different Lions place in the top-five in five different events at the Incarnate Word Last Chance Meet at Benson Stadium.
The Lions saw a solid performance by their jumpers and throwers, including the long jump where Anthony Harris (6.77 meters), John David Rollins (6.72 meters) and Charles Powell (6.64 meters) finished 1-2-3 for A&M-Commerce.
Khalil Henry, fresh off his Lone Star Conference title in the high jump, placed second with a mark of 2.01 meters while Daniel Dia placed third in the discus (42.65 meters).
A&M-Commerce also had top-billing in the 400 meter hurdles with Demetrius Holmes (56.30) and Elijah Burwell (57.97) finishing first and second. Three Lions also notched top-10 showings in the 400 meter dash as Ernest Rickett (48.81) placed seventh followed by EJ Skinner (49.51) in eighth and Albert Sinegal (51.11) in 10th.
Rickett also teamed up with Joel Day, Ravi Dubose and Adam Gary in the 4x400 meter run, posting a time of 3:20.75.
A&M-Commerce now awaits to see which of its athletes will be invited to the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championships, held this season in Pueblo, Colo. May 24-27. A&M-Commerce will be looking to build on last year's performance which saw a pair of Lions finish in the top-10 of their respective events.
