A&M-COMMERCE RACES TO SECOND-PLACE FINISH AT MIDWESTERN STATE STAMPEDE

WICHITA FALLS, Texas –- Texas A&M University-Commerce opened up the 2011 season with a second-place showing at the Midwestern State Stampede in Wichita Falls. The Lions tallied 61 points and had three runners place among the top-15.

 

Newcomer Isaac Chelimo was the top Lion finisher, placing seventh in the 6K race with a time of 18:58. Everett Wilder checked in at 12th with a time of 19:23, five seconds better than teammate Fredrick Kipsang, who placed 13th.

 

Alex Kimp (20:06) finished 19th, giving A&M-Commerce four runners among the meet's top-20. Ross Hicks just missed a top-20 finish, placing 22nd and finishing just two seconds back of Kimp in a pack of five runners that crossed the finish line at nearly the same time. Raymond Mata (20:34) closed out the A&M-Commerce finishers among the top-30, placing 27th.

With the season-opening race in the books, A&M-Commerce will have some time to build on what was learned in Wichita Falls. The Lions return to the course on Saturday, Sept. 17, traveling to Joplin, Mo., to compete in the Missouri Southern Stampede.
