COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Commerce today announced its 2012 men's and women's cross country schedules. The Lions will compete in five regular season meets, leading up to the Lone Star Conference Championships on October 20 in Lawton, Okla.
A&M-Commerce opens up the season with a trip to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the Memphis Brooks Twilight Invitational on September 1st, hosted by Christian Brothers University. The Lions then head to Lawton, Okla. for the Cameron Aggie Showdown on September 8th, getting their first look at where the LSC Championship meet will be held later in the fall.
The Lions then head to Joplin, Mo., the site of the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championships, to compete in the Missouri Southern Stampede on September 15th. A&M-Commerce will then participate in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla. on September 29th in a meet that has become one of the top cross country events in the region.
A&M-Commerce's final tune-up before the conference meet will be at the Southern Arkansas Invitational in Magnolia, Ark. on October 6th as the Lion men will look to defend their team title from 2011 while the women try to build on their third-place showing from last year.
The 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships will be held on Saturday, October 20th in Lawton, Okla., as Cameron University will serve as the host institution. The NCAA Division II Regional Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 3 in Denver, Colo. with the 2012 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships taking place in Joplin, Mo. on Saturday, November 17.
A&M-Commerce returns the bulk of both of its rosters from 2011 as it looks to build upon its successes from last year. The men were picked third in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll with the women picked ninth – the same positions they finished at last season's LSC meet. Head coach Darren Schneider also added a handful of talented newcomers to help bolster both the men's and women's rosters.
