COMMERCE, Texas -- A&M-Commerce freshman Dorian McCradic has been named the Lone Star Conference Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year, announced today by league officials. McCradic adds to his stellar freshman career after being named an All-Lone Star Conference selection.
McCradic is coming off a sixth-place showing at the Lone Star Conference Championships last weekend in Lawton, Okla., recording a time of 25:37 in the 8K race. He was one of two Lions to earn All-LSC recognition by finishing in the top-15, joined by fellow freshman Luis Romero who placed 15th overall (26:08).
McCradic made quite a splash in his first season in Commerce as he was the first Lion to cross the finish line in all five events of the season. He had a pair of top-10 showings, placing first at the Southern Arkansas Lois Davis Invitational leading up to his sixth-place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships. McCradic had another top-20 showing, finishing 20th at the season-opening Memphis Brooks Twilight Invitational.
With the regular season now behind him, McCradic and the rest of the Lions are preparing for the 2012 NCAA Regional Championships, being held in Denver, Colo. on Saturday, Nov. 3. A&M-Commerce is hoping to then qualify for the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championships, being held Saturday, Nov. 17 in Joplin, Mo.
