Preseason Poll Ranking
A&M-Commerce was picked 10th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll, announced by league officials on October 26th. The poll was announced in conjunction with the conference's Online Basketball Media Day. A&M-Commerce garnered 71 points, voted on by the conference's head coaches, sports information directors and media representatives. The Lions finished two points behind ninth-place Texas A&M-Kingsville and three points ahead of 11th-place Eastern New Mexico. Tarleton State was picked as the Lone Star Conference preseason number one, picking up 23 out of 31 first-place votes and 328 total votes. West Texas A&M nabbed four first-place and 289 total votes to sit second, followed by Texas Woman's (247 pts.), Angelo State (245 pts.) and Abilene Christian (241 pts.). The TexAnns' Shelby Adamson was named the LSC's Preseason Player of the Year. Head coach Nicole Anderson gets her third season in Commerce underway on Tuesday, Nov. 15, facing Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant, Okla. The Lions then open up a four-game season-opening home stand against Henderson State on Friday, Nov. 18 at 6 pm.

Coaches Corner: Nicole Anderson
Nicole Anderson begins her third season as the head women's basketball coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Before coming to A&M-Commerce in the fall of 2009, she spent the past five years as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at Division I member Long Beach State University. Anderson also served as the CEO for Hoop School, a non-profit organization located in Long Beach, Calif., which she founded in 2004. Hoop School teaches middle and elementary age students' using fundamentals of basketball to improve fitness and nutrition to combat childhood obesity. Anderson earned her bachelor's degree from UCLA in 1993, where she starred on the basketball team and was a four-year team captain, a Pac 10 all-conference selection and named to the conference's academic honor roll. She was named one of the 15 greatest players in UCLA women's basketball history and a Naismith Award candidate as a senior, which is given to the top player in the country, and still ranks in the program's top five in both steals and assists.
