LOOKING BACK AT 2012-13
The 2012-13 season as a memorable one for the A&M-Commerce women’s basketball team. Fourth-year head coach Nicole Anderson and Lions turned in a nine win improvement compared to the 2011-12 season with a record of 11-17 (8-12 LSC).

Lions used a 50-24 rebounding edge to knock-off Abilene Christian in the Quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament in advance to semifinals on Friday to face the winner of Angelo State and West Texas game.

THREE LIONS PULL IN ALL-LONE STAR CONFERENCE POSTSEASON HONORS
ALLEN, Texas - A&M-Commerce landed a pair of Lions on the All-Lone Star Conference teams, announced Tuesday evening by the conference office. Junior forward Breanna Harris earned second team All-Lone Star Conference honors while junior teammate Danielle Dixon was named an honorable mention selection. In addition, head coach Nicole Anderson was named the LSC’s Co-Coach of the Year after helping the Lions to an incredible improvement in 2012-13.

LIONS HOLD OFF ZIAS, 66-64, TO CLINCH SEVENTH SEED IN LSC TOURNEY
PORTALES, N.M. – With postseason conference seeding on the line, A&M-Commerce was able to make the plays it needed to as the Lions close out the regular season with a 66-64 victory at Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon. The victory ups the Lions’ record to 10-14 on the year and 8-12 in Lone Star Conference play, giving head coach Nicole Anderson her first 10-win season at the helm of the Lions.

WEST TEXAS HANDLES A&M-COMMERCE ON SENIOR NIGHT, 73-64
West Texas A&M handled A&M-Commerce on Senior Night at the Field House. The Lady Buffs controlled the paint with 40 points inside leading to 63 percent night from the floor and had 25 assists on 29 made field goals.

The Lions close out the season with a home date with West Texas and a road trip to Eastern New Mexico before the LSC Tournament in Allen next week. The game in Portales will likely determine the seventh or the eighth seed in Allen.

LIONS CLINCH SPOT IN LSC TOURNAMENT, BEAT CAMERON 65-58
Commerce, Texas ââ¬â The Lions will be heading to the postseason after a scintillating 65-58 victory over Cameron. Breanna Harris recorded her 12th double-double with an 18 point 11 rebound performance and Danielle Dixon added 16 to lead the Lions to the postseason for the first time under head coach Nicole Anderson.

MUSTANGS USE SECOND HALF SURGE TO DOWN LIONS, 70-62
Wichita Falls, Texas – A&M-Commerce led 38-29 at the half but Midwestern State came out hot in the second half and took advantage 18 Lion turnovers. Midwestern took the lead for good at the half way point in the second half 43-42 thanks to a layup by Kirsti Degelia. The Mustangs out scored the Lions 41-24 in the second half.

LIONS MAGIC NUMBER IS 1 TO CLINCH SPOT IN LSC TOURNAMENT
Opening Tip: With Texas Woman’s loss to Abilene Christian on Tuesday night the Lions magic number to clinch a spot in the LSC tournament is 1. The Lions need to win one more game or have the Pioneers loss one more time and the Lions will be heading to Allen for the LSC tournament. It would be the first conference tournament for Head Coach Nicole Anderson. The Lions ended a four game slide last weekend with the win against Texas A&M-Kingsville.

LIONS TRAVEL TO INCARNATE WORD AND HOST A&M-KINGSVILLE
The Lions have dropped three straight and will look to turn things around against Incarnate Word, who the beat back in January, 61-50. A&M-Commerce will then host A&M-Kingsville on Saturday and will look to sweep the Javelinas for the first time since 2004-05. The teams have only played twice in a season twice since then.

San Antonio, Texas – Free throws down the stretch allowed Incarnate Word survive at home against A&M-Commerce. The Cardinals stayed one possession ahead of the Lions during the last 90 seconds make key free throws to keep the lead at two possessions and forcing the Lions to make threes or keep fouling to extend the game.

San Angelo, Texas – A&M-Commerce scored the first basket of the second half but Angelo State then went on a 15-0 run to put the game out of reach on Saturday evening. The win moves Angelo State past A&M-Commerce into sixth place in the Lone Star Conference standings.

ACU RACES PAST LIONS IN SECOND HALF, 75-61
Commerce, Texas – Abilene Christian came out of halftime and was on fire hitting on all cylinders on offense and overcame a five point halftime deficit to beat A&M-Commerce 75-61 on Wednesday night in LSC action. The win keeps ACU within a ½ game of first place and the loss drops A&M-C to a tie with Angelo State for sixth going into Saturday’s game in San Angelo.

TRIPS TO TEXAS WOMAN’S AND TARLETON STATE ON TAP FOR LIONS
The Lions travel to Denton to start the second half of conference against the Pioneers of Texas Woman’s on Wednesday and travel to Stephenville to face Tarleton State on Saturday. A&M-Commerce will look to stay clear of the log jam behind them in the standings from 7th-11th with a victory over Texas Woman’s. Currently the Lions hold the sixth seed in the conference tournament. The top eight advance to the tournament in March at the Allen Events Center.

TARLETON STATE CRUISES PAST A&M-COMMERCE, 79-51
Tarleton State came into the Field House sporting the number one offense in the Lone Star Conference and they put it on display beating the Lions, 79-51. The win gives the TexAnns an opportunity to gain first place by themselves or tie with Abilene Christian and Midwestern State depending on results from Saturday. The loss drops the Lions to 4-6 in LSC play and put them on the bubble for making the conference tournament in March in Allen, Texas.

A&M-Commerce gets six days off before taking on the TexAnns of Tarleton State at the Field House. The Lions will be trying to get back to .500 in conference play and within one game in the overall record. It would mark the furthest into a season that the Lions would be at .500 in conference play under Head Coach Nicole Anderson.

The A&M-Commerce Lions fended off a late rally by Eastern New Mexico to come away with a double digit win, 69-59. With the win the Lions improve to 6-8 overall and 4-5 in Lone Star Conference play. The loss drops Eastern New Mexico to 3-14 and 2-7 in LSC play. The four conference wins surpassing the three, coach Nicole Anderson had coming into this season.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Trailing by 13 points midway through the second half, A&M-Commerce mounted a furious rally against Henderson State, pulling to within one with just over three minutes remaining. But the Lions were unable to get over the hump, dropping a 75-72 decision to the Lady Reddies at the Duke Wells Center Tuesday evening.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – A&M-Commerce put together a strong opening half, giving Ouachita Baptist all it could handle. But a sluggish second half did in the Lions as A&M-Commerce fell 71-56 at Bill Vining Arena. The loss is the fourth-straight for the Lions who fall to 3-4 on the year.

Opening Tip: The Lions travel to first place Abilene Christian for the final time as Lone Star Conference rivals as the Wildcats will move to the Division I level and the Southland Conference next season.
