Opening Tip: The Lions will look to extend their winning streak to four dating back to last season. When the Lions travel to Huntsville to take on Sam Houston State it would be the first time since losing to A&M Corpus-Christi 79-63 back in 2006-07. North Dakota is now a member in the Big Sky Conference in women's basketball. A&M-Commerce will try to open up the season 3-0 for the first time since 2008-09 season.

Series Score: The Lions are currently 27-39 all-time against the Texas Woman's Pioneers. The last victory for the Lions over the Pioneers was in 2008-09 when they swept the season series. Sam Houston State holds a 18-2 record all-time over A&M-Commerce. However the Lions did win the last time these two sides faced off, back in the 1982-83 season.

Texas Woman's travels to Commerce for the conference opener for both teams in the 2012-13 season. The Pioneers have struggled on offense so far this season averaging just 55 ppg only team worse is Eastern New Mexico. The Lions have average almost 75 ppg through two games. Toree Mason is currently eighth in conference in scoring. Ria Pateraki is currently seventh in rebounding in the LSC. Rebekah Cluley is third in LSC in assists at 3.6 per game.

The Bearkats will open their home schedule with this game. The Bearkats opened up the season on the road facing nationally ranked Delaware Blue Hens in the WNIT. The Bearkats tallied their lone win the consolation bracket with a victory over Grambling, 73-55. The Bearkats are coming off the two best seasons in the program's history with 35 victories over that time frame. Same Houston State won the west division in the Southland Conference and advanced to the post season for the first time ever, playing in the Women's Basketball Invitational.

Harris leads LSC: A&M-Commerce junior forward currently leads the conference in both and rebounds. Harris is currently averaging 21.5 ppg and over 14 rebounds per game so far this season.

Harris Named LSC Offensive Player of the Week (11/20): Harris scored 30 points and added 15 rebounds in A&M-Commerce's 76-57 victory over Southern Arkansas Wednesday ... Harris hit 9 of 16 shots from the floor and 12-of-15 from the line ... She also grabbed 15 rebounds, 10 of which were offensive ... She had a double-double by halftime, recording 22 points and 11 rebounds in the first half as the Lions notched their most decisive victory in five seasons, also marking the first time in five years they were above .500 

Freshmen Impact: The new faces on the Lions roster have made their presences known in the first two games. Currently Amber Carver is leading the LSC in blocks per game with 3.0 bpg. Audree Butts is tied for third with fellow Lion Danielle Dixon with three steals per game. 

 

Lions facing Division 1 Sam Houston State: The Lions travel to Sam Houston State to face a Division 1 opponent for the first time since facing Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the 2006-07 season. The Lions dropped both of the games by the score of 77-73 and 79-63 respectfully. The Lions also faced current Division 1 member North Dakota in the same season when the Fighting Sioux were a Division 2 opponent.

Renewing old rivalry: With the Lions facing Sam Houston State on Friday, it marks the first time since 1982-83 that the two school will face each other on the court. The Lions  won the last meeting btween the school in 1982-83, by the score of 83-69. Before the series stopped the Lions and the Bearkats played twice a yea for the previous ten seasons.

Hearne's improved production: As a freshmen last season La'Tisha Hearne averaged just over five points per game in 17 minutes per game. This season the sophomore forward has increased in her production significantly. Through two games Hearne is averaging 13.0 ppg in just 19 minutes so far this season.

Head Coach Nicole Anderson: Anderson enters her fourth season at the helm of the A&M-Commerce Lions women's basketball program. Her team will look to improve from the 2-24 season they suffered each of the last two seasons and move up the conference standings in 2012-13. She has compiled an 8-70 record over her three seasons as head coach. Anderson will look to the new comers to help out in production to go along with Breanna Harris and Danielle Dixon.

Who is Next: A&M-Commerce travels to Abilene Christian for the final time as Lone Star Conference rivals on Tuesday, December 4; before ACU moves to the Southland Conference and the Division 1 ranks. Later in the week the Lions will host the Rambelles of Angelo State on Saturday, December 8.
