BALANCED ANGELO STATE ATTACK SINKS LIONS, 67-57

Commerce, Texas – Like in their previous outing against Abilene Christian the Lion women were unable dig out of an early deficit. The Lions did cut the lead to four three different times but were unable to get any closer and fell to Angelo State 67-57 to drop to 3-3 and 1-2 in LSC.

Angelo State had four players in double figures led by Lauren Holt's 15. Leah Lemaire, Haylee Oliver and Cassi Stegall all had 14 for the Rambelles.

Both teams struggled to get a rhythm on offense early with each side committing three in the opening seven minutes. Angelo State got some separation with an eight nothing scoring run over the course of six minutes to stretch the lead to 12 at 19-7 with 6:50 left in the first half.

The Lions stopped the run thanks to a free throw from Devin Oliver. Symone Brown ended a nearly six minute field goal drought with jumper from inside the lane to make it 19-10 in with 5:51left in the half.

Over the final three minutes of the first half the Lions made a run to cut to lead to four before the Rambelles got a basket in the last half minute to give them a six point halftime lead at 26-20.

Two free throws by Michelle Sutton started the run. Brisoce hit a three from the corner to cut it to seven and then Breanna Harris intercepted a pass at half court and dished it off to Brown who made the lay –up and converted a free throw for the old fashioned three point play.

Neither side took care of the ball with a total of 25 turnovers in the opening half. The Lions did record five steals, with five players each having one.

Angelo State increased their halftime advantage of six in the opening minutes to as many as 12 before the Lions got on the board with a free throw by La'Tisha Hearne to make the score 32-21.

The Rambelles were able to keep their distance for most of the second with their lead never going below until Shanequa Bibbs made a three with 7:06 left. Bibbs came off the bench in the second half to provide a lift and put in 13 points including 3 three pointers to help the Lions cut into the Angelo State lead.

Breanna Harris also had a good second half adding 11 points and five rebounds to help Bibbs and lead the offense. Hearne added seven points. The Lions took better care of the ball in the second half with only three turnovers and passed the ball well to the tune of ten assists.

Unfortunately for the Lions they we unable to get any closer than four points in the second half. The Rambelles were able to hit free throws to extend their lead down the stretch to win by ten.

A&M-Commerce travels to Arkadelphia for their next two games. The first game is on Saturday, December 15 to take on Ouachita Baptist at 3:00 p.m. The second game in Arkadelphia is Tuesday, December 18 against Henderson State at 6:00 p.m.
