WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Adelina Gentry begins her first season as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Gentry spent last year as the head girls’ basketball coach at Overhills High School in Spring Lake, North Carolina. She led Overhills to the program’s first-ever berth in the state tournament and conference tournament title. Overhills also hosted the conference tournament for the first time in the program’s history. In 2007-08, she served as a volunteer assistant for the boys’ team.
She coached girls on the AAU level for the last two years while also playing on all-star teams and on the semi pro level.
In 2007, Gentry played professional basketball in Perth, Australia where the team advanced through three rounds of the championship tournament. She played on the college level at the University of New Haven. While at the University of New Haven, she played a season under new head women’s basketball coach Nicole Anderson. At New Haven, she was a three-time academic all-conference selection and recipient of the Silverman Group Award as a senior. As a freshman, they advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Gentry earned her
bachelor’s degree in management of sports industries from the
University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut. Prior to her
senior year, she was a corporate sales intern for the Minnesota
Timberwolves (NBA) and the Minnesota Lynx (WNBA).
