McMAHAN PLACES SECOND, LIONS FINISH THIRD AT LSC CHAMPIONSHIPS

TROPHY CLUB, Texas – Behind a solid performance from sophomore Chantry McMahan, A&M-Commerce closed out the 2011-12 season with a third-place finish at the 2012 Firestone Lone Star Conference Championships in Trophy Club. The Lions shaved six strokes off their opening round score, posting a 21-over 309 to card a 48-over 624 for the 36-hole tournament.

It is the second-straight year that McMahan notched a runner-up showing at the Conference Championships, shooting a 2-over in round two to finish with a 3-over 147. She finished three strokes back of Incarnate Word's Flower Castillo as the second-team All-LSC selection records her highest finish of the season and fifth top-10 showing of the 2011-12 season.

There was a three-player Lion logjam at the bottom of the top-20 with sophomore Sara Diaz tying for 17th overall with a 14-over 158, one shot better than Chelsea McCoy who finished in sole possession of 20th with a 15-over 159. Fellow sophomore Haley Green shaved six strokes off her round one total, carding a 77 to finish 21st with a 16-over 160. Holly Jenkins rounded out the A&M-Commerce scorecard with a 32-over 176, placing 36th.

A&M-Commerce made a charge at second-place Midwestern State pulling to within eight shots of the Mustangs, who finished with a 40-over 616. The Lions held off both Angelo State and Cameron, who tied for fourth with a 53-over 629, one shot better than West Texas A&M's 54-over 630.

Tarleton State won its fifth-straight Lone Star Conference title, shooting a 21-over 597. Incarnate Word's Castillo notched the individual title with the Lady Buffs' Alisa White and the TexAnns' Sharon Lau and Jacqueline Lau tying for third overall.

A&M-Commerce closes out the 2011-12 season with six top-10 finishes in its six events, highlighted by the third-place showing at the LSC Championship. Individually the future remains bright for A&M-Commerce as the roster consists of five sophomores and one freshman which combined for five top-10 and an additional eight top-20 finishes on the year.
