LIONS CLOSE OUT DALLAS BAPTIST CLASSIC TIED FOR 11TH OVERALL

DALLAS – A&M-Commerce opened the final round of the Dallas Baptist Classic in a quest for a top-five finish, but a sluggish final round dropped the Lions to a tie for 11th overall with a 58-over 634.

Heading into Tuesday’s final round, A&M-Commerce was sitting in prime position to make a run at the team title, sitting tied for third and just 10 shots back of first. But the Lions shot a 43-over 331 over the final 18 holes, sliding back to a tie for 11th overall with Lone Star Conference West Texas A&M. Both the Lions and Lady Buffs were two shots back of a top-10 finish, settling behind fellow LSC opponent Incarnate Word (56-over 632).

Chantry McMahan had the best round of the afternoon for A&M-Commerce, notching a 5-over 77 and shaving one stroke off her opening round total to finish tied for 22nd with an 11-over 155. Sara Diaz was one shot behind, carding a 9-over 81 to finish tied for 27th with a 12-over 156.

Haley Green’s 15-over 160 over the final 18 holes gave her a two-round total of 16-over 160, three shots better than teammate Chelsea McCoy, who finished with a 19-over 163. Holly Jenkins rounded out the Lion scorecard with a 28-over 172.

St. Edward’s captured the team title with a 20-over 596, finishing six shots better than second-place Midwestern State (26-over 602). Host Dallas Baptist slid into the third spot with a 31-over 607, followed by Central Oklahoma and Chico State (37-over 613), tying for fourth overall.

A&M-Commerce finished a handful of strokes back of a six-team logjam in the middle of the team standings, finishing six shots back of seventh-place Cameron (52-over 628), five strokes behind eighth-place Northwood (53-over 629) and three shots back of ninth-place Henderson State (55-over 631).

A&M-Commerce returns to the links for one final time during the fall season, heading north to Lawton, Okla. for the 2012 Oklahoma Invitational at Fort Sill Golf Course. The opening 18 holes get underway Monday, October 22nd, followed by the final round on Tuesday, October 23rd. It marks the final tournament of the fall season before a four-month hiatus for the Lions.
