POTTSBORO, Texas – Returning to the links for the first time in a month, A&M-Commerce had a strong showing through the opening round of the 2013 Texoma Chevy Dealers Lion Intercollegiate. The Lions posted a 40-over 328 through the first 18 holes, sitting tied for third and just five shots off the lead at their host tournament.

Junior Sara Diaz had a strong round as well, remaining in the hunt for the individual title with a 7-over 79, sitting in a six-way tie for third-place. Diaz enters Tuesday's final round just three shots off the individual lead, currently held by Henderson State's Kendall Earp (4-over 76).

Fellow juniors Chelsea McCoy and Chantry McMahan also sit among the individual top-20, as McCoy is tied for 16th with a 10-over 82, one stroke better than McMahan's 11-over 83, sitting tied for 18th. Freshman Ali Leasor posted a 12-over 84 and is tied for 23rd overall with Holly Jenkins (25-over 97) rounding out the Lion scorecard.

While conditions started out chilly with temperatures lingering in the low 30s and a brisk northerly wind, the day warmed up to a pleasant afternoon as not a cloud filled the Pottsboro sky.

A&M-Commerce remains well within striking distance of the team championship heading into Tuesday's final round. The Lions trail first-place Lubbock Christian (35-over 323) by just five shots and are one stroke back of second-place Arkansas Fort-Smith (39-over 327). A&M-Commerce currently sits tied for third with Colorado State-Pueblo, who matched the Lions with a 40-over 328.

The Lions hold a six shot lead over fifth-place Henderson State (46-over 334) and are eight shots ahead of sixth-place Northwood (48-over 336) as A&M-Commerce will be paired with the Lady Reddies and Knights in Tuesday's final pairings. The Lions will tee off on holes 3-5, getting underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Full results will be posted at LionAthletics.com as they become available.
