PAIR OF LIONS AMONG TOP-10 AFTER 18 HOLES AT MUSTANG INVITATIONAL

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A pair of Lions sit among the individual top-10 as A&M-Commerce sits in seventh-place out of the 18-team field at the Midwestern State Mustang Invitational in Wichita Falls. The Lions shot a 39-over 327, remaining in the hunt with a handful of teams for a top-five finish.

Fresh off her Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week honor, junior Sara Diaz continues to play at one of the top levels of her career, shooting a 5-over 77, highlighted by three birdies on the day, and is tied for seventh overall. She leads fellow senior Chantry McMahan by one stroke as McMahan is tied for ninth with a 6-over 78, recording 11 pars on the day.

Chelsea McCoy carded a 12-over 84 through the first 18 holes, followed by a 16-over 88 from Haley Green. Freshman Ali Leasor rounded out the A&M-Commerce scorecard with an 18-over 90.

The challenging 18-team field has produced a competitive final 18 holes as the Lions sit within 10 strokes of either third-place or 14th. A&M-Commerce is one shot behind sixth-place Angelo State (38-over 326) and five shots back of Incarnate Word (34-over 322) as it looks for its third top-five finish of the season.

But the Lions will have to fend off a handful of contenders as it leads both West Texas A&M and Newman (40-over 328) by one stroke while sitting three shots ahead of 10th-place Colorado State-Pueblo (42-over 330).

Host Midwestern State is leading after the opening round with a 26-over 314, leading Central Oklahoma (28-over 316) by two strokes and are three ahead of third-place Oklahoma Christian (29-over 317). Southwestern Oklahoma State (31-over 319) and Incarnate Word round out the top-five team standings.

Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with A&M-Commerce paired with the Lady Buffs and Jets in the final round pairings, teeing off on holes six, seven and eight. Full results will be posted as they become available at LionAthletics.com.
