RECAPPING LAST WEEK'S ACTION
The Lions opened the 2012 season with a 2-0 victory over Ouachita Baptist at home. In her first career game for the Lions freshman, Sydney Lawthers, got the Lions on the board in the 12th minute off a cross from Brionna Minde. Just over 10 minutes later Eva Brutto gave the Lions some insurance when she connected on a shot from inside the 18 yard box. Those two goals were the only support goalie Tracey Rodgers needed as she recorded her first clean sheet in first career start for A&M-Commerce.
This past week also saw the Lions take on the number 10 ranked Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College in Wichita Falls, Texas. Fort Lewis was able to strike first just three minutes into the game. But less than a minute late Brionna Minde brought the Lions back even at 1-1. Ten minutes later the Lions put another goal in thanks to Anitra Wright off a cross from Minde to put the Lions up 2-1 less than 15 minutes into the game. However, the Skyhawks would rattle off three unanswered goals Megan Striedel, her second of the game, Lauren Riley and Sam Weiss. Starting goalkeeper Tracey Rogers left the game half way through the first half with an injury. Her status is unknown for the upcoming games leaving the Lions with a question mark in goal.
