Lions head west to take on West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico over weekend to open up Lone Star Conference play.

Recapping last week's action for the Lions
On Wednesday September 5 the Lions dropped a non-conference match against the No. 9 Dallas Baptist 2-0 in Dallas, Texas. The Lions also travelled to Searcy, Arkansas to take on Harding University unfortunately the game was cancelled in the first half, due to inclement weather, when the Lions were up 1-0 thanks to a goal by Anitra Wright.

SCOUTING THE BUFFS
West Texas A&M takes on Eastern New Mexico at home on September 11 before setting their sights on the Lions when they come to town on Friday. The Buffs currently own a record of 1-2-1 with the win coming against UT-Permian Basin, 4-1. The Lions and Buffs do share a common opponent in Dallas Baptist with both suffering defeats to the Patriots. Leading the charge for the Buffs is Leslie Briggs (#9) with seven of the 10 goals that West Texas has scored this season. Briggs is also the only player with more than five shots and more than three shots on goal so far this season. Jamie Hall (#0) and Yvette Bedoy (#1) have split the time goal with each getting two starts. Hall has given three goals while Bedoy has given up seven in her two starts.

SCOUTING THE ZIAS
The Zias are coming off a victory over Adams State College 2-0 on September 9. They will travel to West Texas A&M on Tuesday September 11, and will host Texas Woman's College on Friday September 14 before taking on the Lions.  The Zias have struggled on offense so far this season as they have only scored 2 goals while giving 11, with eight of those coming in a game against Colorado School of Mines last week. Danielle Thurman (#9) and Angela Sandoval (#14) each one goal for Eastern New Mexico so far this season. Jackie Perez has tallied the lone assist for the Zias this season. Goalies Xan Ortiz (#01) and Kellie Hogan (#1) have each started two games for Eastern. Ortiz has fared better with a 1.20 goals against average and recording a 1-1 record.
