CANYON, Texas – Lions able to open up conference with a road victory over the Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M by a score of 2-1.

West Texas was able to get on the board first when Leslie Briggs connected on a penalty kick after a foul on the Lions in the penalty area in the 10th minute. It was Briggs ninth tally of the season. The Lions we able to counter with chances in the ensuing minutes but we unable to push one past West Texas keeper Yvette Bedoy. The pressure by the Lions soon yielded a return when Brionna Minde scored off her own rebound after she hit the crossbar. West Texas was able to get some more opportunities at the end of the first half but was unable to put one past goalie Tracey Rogers.

The Lady Buffs controlled the pace of the second half with four shots in the first four minutes of the second 45. The Lions defense was able to hold West Texas at bay and was rewarded when freshmen Anitra Wright came on as a substitute and scored less than two minutes later, in the 73rd minute, after beating the goalie when she came out to defend. It was Anitra's second goal of the season.

Rogers was solid in goal again for the Lions allowing one goal and recording four saves in the winning effort and pushing her record to 2-1 on the year.
