ROBERTSON REPEATS AS LONE STAR CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
COMMERCE, Texas -- Senior middle blocker Rachel Robertson has been named the Lone Star Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, announced today by league officials. Robertson shares the award with Midwestern State's Shelbi Stewart and Viktorija Jablonska of Texas Woman's.
Robertson had a weekend to remember at the Tarleton Volleyball Invitational in Stephenville as she helped pace the Lions to a 3-1 mark, improving to 7-1 on the year - matching the best start since 2002. In the opening set of the first match against Ouachita Baptist, Robertson knocked down her 1,000th career kill, become just the ninth player in program history to join the exclusive club.
She continued her solid play all weekend, finishing with 20-or-more kills in the matches against Ouachita Baptist and Southeastern Oklahoma State, finishing the weekend with 70 while hitting a blistering .400 with 12 blocks. Robertson was named the tournament MVP as she finished with double-digit kill totals in all four matches.
On the year, Robertson has recorded 117 kills through eight matches, averaging 4.03 kills per set while hitting at an outstanding .434 clip. She currently sits at 1,069 career kills, which moved her from ninth to fourth on the all-time kills list at A&M-Commerce. Robertson needs 259 more kills to leapfrog A&M-Commerce Hall of Famer Alice Fortes into third all-time in Lion program history.
Robertson and the rest of the Lions look to build on their 7-1 start, the best since 2002, as A&M-Commerce begins Lone Star Conference play on the road this weekend, beginning with a date with Incarnate Word Friday at 7 p.m. in San Antonio. The Lions then head south to Kingsville to battle the Javelinas at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
