Lions Sweep Wildcats For First Win in Abilene Since 1995
A&M-Commerce posted one of the biggest wins of the season Tuesday evening, outlasting Abilene Christian 25-23, 25-23, 30-28 to notch its first victory at Moody Coliseum since 1995. Senior middle blocker Rachel Robertson had one of the best matches of her career, recording a career-best 25 kills with a .477 hitting percentage with a pair of solo blocks. Kayla Bond added eight kills with Jordan Neal finishing with 39 assists, 11 digs, four kills, three blocks and a pair of aces. Through the course of the match, the Lions and Wildcats combined for over 30 ties and 15 lead changes, including 22 and 12, respectively, in the third set.
Milestone Watch
Heading into this weekend, a number of Lions remain within striking distance of a number of impressive season and career milestone. Rachel Robertson has 317 digs on the year, upping her career total to 1,269, leaving her 59 kills shy of surpassing Alice Fortes for third all-time in career kills. Her .378 hitting percentage currently sits second all-time among the single-season leaders, trailing just Amy Wallace's .422 in 2001. Setter Jordan Neal has 884 assists on the year, which is less than 200 away from cracking the top-10 list for single season performances as she now has 2,804 career helpers, leaving her 196 shy of 3,000. Libero Michaela Spicer is also closing in on the record books, notching 436 digs on the year, which is three shy of matching Wendy Adams' 439 in 1997 for 10th all-time.
Looking Ahead
Following the pair of home matches this weekend, the Lions take to the road for the final time this season, making the short trip to Denton for a key battle against Texas Woman's at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 30. A&M-Commerce then begins its season-ending three-match homestand, hosting Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. Friday, November 2nd at the Field House.
