SAN ANGELO, Texas – Four Lions were recognized with Lone Star Conference postseason accolades this evening, highlighted by senior middle blocker Rachel Robertson being named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Year. The awards were announced in conjunction with the 2012 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship banquet in San Angelo.
Robertson was named a first team All-LSC selection for the second-straight year, adding to her second team honor as a sophomore. She was joined on the All-Conference team by junior setter Jordan Neal, who was named to the second team for the third-straight year, along with sophomore middle blocker Breanne Snyder who was named to the honorable mention team.
In addition, Robertson was selected to the Lone Star Conference Volleyball All-Academic team along with junior right side hitter Kayla Bond, marking the second-straight year Bond picked up All-Academic team accolades.
Robertson was a force all season for A&M-Commerce, ranking first in the LSC in hitting percentage (.383) and points per set (4.62) and ranking second in kills per set (3.84). She tallied 396 kills in the regular season, moving into third all-time in program history for career kills with 1,348. Her .383 hitting percentage is the second-highest single-season total in program history as she ranks among the national top-25 in three categories.
Neal continued to pace the Lion offensive attack, dishing out 1,088 assists on the season, which is the ninth-best single-season performance in program history. She became just the fourth player to notch back-to-back 1,000-assist seasons and ranks fourth in the conference in assists per set (10.52) while sitting second in service aces per set (0.38).
Snyder had a breakthrough season in 2012 as she ranked second on the Lions in kills (236), digs (174) and service aces (36), ranking third in the LSC in service aces per set (0.36) and 23rd in points per set (2.89). Snyder had the most attempts on the season for A&M-Commerce with 855, recording a .144 hitting percentage while posting 289.0 points on the season.
Bond had another solid season on the right side for A&M-Commerce, finishing with 204 kills and 72 blocks with a .203 hitting percentage. Bond, who was a Captial One Academic All-District VI second team selection, was also a member of the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in both 2011 and 2012.
The A&M-Commerce honorees still have some work to do, however, as they are getting set to take to the court for the 2012 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championships at Stephens Arena tomorrow afternoon.
