STILLWATER, Okla. – A&M-Commerce’s men’s and women’s cross country teams put themselves up against some of the top cross country runners in the country, competing in the 74th annual Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree. The race, which annually brings some of the top talent across the country, is the oldest collegiate cross country race in the United States.
Competing in the University Division, the men placed 23rd out of 29 teams on the day, led by Isaac Chelimo’s 135th-place finish, completing the 8,000-meter race with a time of 26:22.51. Kenyan teammate Fredrick Kipsang placed second among the Lion participants, finishing 175th with a time of 26:51.75. Alex Kimp was the third Lion to finish, posting a time of 27:03.91.
Everett Wilder just missed finishing among the top-200, placing 202nd with a time of 27:13.55. Raymond Mata was the final Lion to tally points, finishing at 27:42.93. Tyler Hemenway (28:27.45) and Ross Hicks (29:40.78) also competed on the day for A&M-Commerce.
The women also competed in the University Division, but only ran four participants in the race, which failed to qualify them for the team standings. Jennifer Speer was the top female Lion finisher, placing 158th in the 6,000-meter race with a time of 21:26.05. She finished four spots better than teammate Caroline Cotsakis, who placed 162nd at 21:49.68. Audrie Vela (21:52.13) and Kendall Christmas (22:45.15) also ran for A&M-Commerce.
The Lions will be right back on the course this coming weekend, traveling to Irving for the University of Dallas Invitational on Saturday, October 8.
