PAIR OF LIONS NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-LONE STAR CONFERENCE TEAMS

COMMERCE, Texas – A pair of A&M-Commerce runners have been named to the 2012 Lone Star Conference Academic All-Cross Country teams, announced today by league officials. Caroline Cotsakis was one of five named to the women's team with Alex Kimp being named to the men's team for the second-straight season.

Cotsakis, a sophomore from Rockwall, has been one of the anchors for the Lions women team all season as she has been either the first or second A&M-Commerce finisher at all four events this season. She placed fifth at the Lois Davis Invitational, running a season-best 19:52 in helping the Lions to a first-place finish, and was the first A&M-Commerce finisher at both the Memphis Brooks Twilight Invitational (21:12) and the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree (20:52).

Kimp is a repeat selection after being named to the LSC All-Academic Team in 2011 and has helped A&M-Commerce to a number of notable results. He was the second A&M-Commerce finisher at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree, running a 27:35, while placing eighth at the Southern Arkansas Lois Davis Invitational (26:19), helping lead the Lions to a first-place finish. Kimp notched his best time of the year at the Memphis Brooks Twilight Invitational, running a 23:15 to place in the top-100.

Cotsakis, Kimp and the rest of the A&M-Commerce cross country teams are on their way to Lawton, Okla. for the 2012 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday morning. The men's 8K race gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 6K run beginning at 10:30 p.m. as both teams are looking to improve on their 2011 finishes.
