Lawton, Okla. – At the Lone Star Conference Championships the Lions cross country teams performed well with the men finishing fourth in the conference and the women finished seventh to close out the season before the NCAA Regional's next week.
The men were paced by All-Lone Star Conference and Freshmen of the Year, Dorian McCradic and fellow All-Conference performer Luis Romero. McCradic crossed the line with a time of 25:37. Thirty seconds later Romero crossed the line with a 26:08, which is the exact time he ran when the Lions won in Magnolia, Arkansas last time out. Everett Wilder just missed out on an All-Conference selection finishing 18 with a 26:21. The top fifteen finishers earn All-Conference accolades. Also scoring points for the Lions were Alex Kimp and Fredrick Kipsang. Kimp ran a 26:50 and finished 31st. Right behind Kimp was Kipsang in 32nd, who also ran a 26:50.
The Lion women finished seventh and that was well in front of TAMU-Kingsville and Abilene Christian who finished eighth and ninth respectively. Caroline Cotsakis finished 29th and led the Lions with a 24:05. Mary Hammonds was second on the team with a 24:53 good enough for 41st. Behind Hammonds in 44th was Jennifer Speer with a time of 25:11. Rounding out the top five for A&M-Commerce was Katia Romero in 46th, with a 25:13, and Julieta Esquivel in 51st with a 25:34.
The Lions will try to qualify as a team and as individuals at the Regional Championships in Denver, Colorado for Nationals in two weeks in Joplin, Missouri.
