Football • 1969-70
A two-time All-Lone Star Conference selection at wide receiver, George Daskalakes earned First Team honors in 1969 and Second Team honors in 1970. In his two seasons with the Lions, he set the school record for touchdown catches in a season (13), a record that stood for 45 years, and finished his career as the program leader in receiving yards and receptions. He led the team in receiving yards in both seasons and led or co-led the team in points scored in both his seasons.
With less than 20 seconds left in the final game of the 1969 season, Daskalakes hauled in a pass at the 20-yard line and raced into the end zone to bring the Lions within one point (35-34) against Stephen F. Austin. He then made a leaping catch to convert the two-point conversion, helping the Lions win the game and earn a share of their 17th Lone Star Conference Championship.
Daskalakes finished his Lion career having played in 21 games with 21 receiving touchdowns, 1,821 receiving yards and 2,359 all-purpose yards.
