Margot enrolled at East Texas State in the fall of 1964 and became the protégé of Fellow Lion Hall of Fame member Dr. Jack Bell with the journalism department. Margot went on to earn his bachelor's degree in journalism and physical education in 1967 and was hired as the university's first full-time Sports Information Director. 

Margot continued his studies for his master’s degree, working part time for the college. He received the master’s of science after submitting his thesis in 1971, also in journalism. In 1972, he chronicled the Lions only NAIA National Championship title. He helped chronicle Lion sports history and his sports publications and nominations helped win 10 All-America awards for Lion Athletes.

Louis continued to work for Texas A&M University-Commerce in various positions, ending his career as property manager. At the time of his retirement, he had worked for the university for over 40 years.
