Nate Granger was a four-year letterwinner on the Lion basketball team and averaged 20.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in his career. He helped lead the Lions to two Lone Star Conference championships and a record of 80-38 in his four seasons. Granger was a four-time All-American, including a two-time Second Team All-American during his senior season. He was named LSC Most Valuable Player in 1974-75, was the 1973-74 LSC Freshman of the Year and was a four-time First Team All-LSC selection.
Granger finished his career holding nine ETSU records and several Lone Star Conference records. After playing his last game more than 40 years ago, Granger is still the all-time leading scorer in Lion history (2,384 points) and was the leading scorer in LSC history until 2018. He holds the LSC record for most points in a game (55 points vs. Paul Quinn in 1977). He also holds the LSC record for most field goals in a single game (26 vs. Paul Quinn) and most field goals in a four-year career (988). Granger also holds the A&M-Commerce record for career rebounds (1,146) and holds the single-season records for points (700 in 1976-77) and field goals (288 in '76-'77).
After his collegiate career, Granger went on to play for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA and also played internationally in Europe, Santo Domingo and South America.
