Football and Track Coach • 1935-41, 1946-50

Robert "Bob" Berry served as head football coach, head track and field coach and had a stint as athletic director in his time at ETSU. Berry posted a record of 72-34-8 as football coach in his 12 seasons, leading the team to conference championships in 1935, 1937, 1938 and 1949. In 1942, Berry joined the navy to fight in World War II, returning to ETSU as head coach when play resumed in 1946.

Berry was also the head track and field coach for the Lions during his tenure, leading the Lions to conference championships in 1939, 1942, 1947, 1948 and 1950, the first five LSC championships in program history. Berry was also Athletic Director for a time while at ETSU.

Prior to his tenure at ETSU, Berry was the football coach and track and field coach at Paris Junior College from 1927-1935. He compiled more than 100 wins in his football coaching career. He played football and ran track at Texas A&M College, where he earned the nickname "The Mighty Mite of Texas A&M".
