Basketball • 1925-26
When she starred at ETSU, Silva Boze Brown played six-on-six basketball for the Lions. She was a pioneer in Lion women's athletics. She was an all-conference guard and was named to the Amateur-Athletic Union All-Tournament team in 1926. As a member of the campus Athletic Council, she served as secretary in 1926.
Following her graduation, she and her husband moved to Childress County. During World War II, Brown was the coach of the boy's basketball team.
Brown was the first in several generations of Lion athletes. Her son, Charles Brown, was a member of the football team in the 50's. Her daughter, Carolyn Brown Burt, also a member of the Lion Hall of Fame, was a track and field coach at ETSU in the 70's and 80's and her granddaughter, Kim Brown, played for the Lion volleyball team in the 1980's.
