The first program to enter the Hall of Fame under the name of A&M-Commerce, head coach Neil Piper's team won the program's first Lone Star Conference championship with a 16-4-1 record, defeating Midwestern State in the title game. The Lions then advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
