COMMERCE – Mia Deck scored 18 points off the bench, making four of her six three pointers, in No. 3/5 ranked Texas A&M University-Commerce's 100-58 rout of the Southwestern Assemblies of God Lions at the Field House as part of Education Day on Monday afternoon.
Fifty five points off the bench helped A&M-Commerce win its seventh straight game to start the season, a feat it has achieved in two of the last three seasons. All five starters for the Lions had a plus/minus of over 25 points, with three reaching double digits in scoring.
Dyani Robinson (Cy-Creek) just missed a double-double, scoring 12 points and dishing out eight assists, while also grabbing three rebounds.
DesiRay Kernal (Newton, Kan.) posted 11 points, three steals, four rebounds, and two assists.
Chania Wright (DeSoto) went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc for 10 points and two rebounds.
Rounding out the starting lineup for the Lions,
Ravae Payne (Pearland) grabbed four rebounds, handed out four assists, and scored eight points.
Juliana Louis (Long Beach, Calif.) led all starters with six rebounds, also recorded two blocks, three assists, and four points.
Three players off the bench scored in double figures for the A&M-Commerce Lions.
Dorian Norris (Lake Dallas) went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line for 11 points and five rebounds.
Laila Lawrence (Lewisville) totaled 14 points. She had team-leading four steals and eight rebounds. Deck drew three fouls to go along with her 18 points.
Olivia Russell (Auburn Hills, Mich.) scored four points off the bench, while
Asiyha Smith (Conway, Ark.) scored three, and
Ashley Shipley (Tucumcari, N.M.) scored two.
A&M-Commerce shot 44.6 percent from the field and outscored SAGU 42-22 in the paint. Cammi Teplicek and Autumn Moore led the SAGU Lions with 10 points each. Jazra Williams had nine rebounds.
Trailing just once all game, which came early in the first quarter, A&M-Commerce took a nine-point lead to close out the first quarter on two free throws by Robinson. The A&M-Commerce Lions scored the first eight points of the second quarter and they extended their largest lead to 28 on two free throws by Norris. SAGU was outscored 28-12 in the second quarter.
Lawrence gave the Lions a 73-37 lead to end the third quarter, which was also their largest lead up to that point. A&M-Commerce's largest lead in the game of 47 came on a free throw by Norris at the 2:49 mark of the fourth quarter.
