WHO IS THE EAST TEXAS A&M SPORTS MEDICINE STAFF? 

East Texas A&M Sports Medicine staff consists of athletic trainers who are certified at both the state and national level to recognize, prevent, and treat injuries or illnesses in our student-athlete population.
 
Athletic Trainers, who are recognized as an allied healthcare professional by the American Medical Association, gain certification and licensure through graduation from CAATE (Certified Accredited Athletic Training Education) accredited athletic training education programs and sitting for national board-certified exams. Through continuing education Athletic Trainers maintain certification with the BOC/NATA and state level entities licensure requirements, while also staying at the forefront of cutting-edge techniques and evidence based best practices, via educational courses aligning with our core principles (Risk reduction, wellness and health literacy; assessment, evaluation and diagnosis; Immediate and Emergent Care; Therapeutic Intervention; and Professional Development and Administration).
 
Our staff athletic trainers operate under the direction of our Chief Medical Officer and head team physician within a medical model that incorporates both on campus university health departments and hospital-based medical specialists. Under this medical model, our goal is to provide an intentional, holistic student-athlete-centered care approach via policies and procedures created and maintained to meet NCAA Medical Best Practices.
