Zachary Orem joined East Texas A&M University as an assistant athletic trainer in June 2026. He serves as the primary athletic trainer for the men's basketball and men's and women's golf programs.
Orem oversees daily sports medicine operations for his teams, including injury prevention, clinical evaluation, acute injury and emergency management, progressive rehabilitation, return-to-play planning, and coordination of care with team physicians, physical therapists, strength and conditioning staff, and coaches.
Prior to arriving in Commerce, Orem developed a diverse clinical foundation through multiple collegiate athletic settings, including Washington State, Saint Mary's (Calif.), Idaho, and Lewis-Clark State. His most recent clinical experience came with Washington State's men's basketball program, where he assisted with daily treatments, injury evaluation and management, individualized rehabilitation programming, and the progression of athletes through return-to-sport protocols.
A former collegiate athlete and five-year high school basketball and tennis coach, Orem brings a unique perspective to sports medicine that combines clinical knowledge with an understanding of the demands of competition and coaching. His approach to athletic training is athlete-centered and relationship-driven, with an emphasis on individualized, evidence-based rehabilitation and preparing athletes to return to competition safely, confidently, and at their highest level.
Orem earned his master's in athletic training (MAT) and bachelor of science in sports medicine from Washington State University, where he completed more than 2,500 hours of immersive clinical education.
Originally from Ione, Oregon, Orem is passionate about collegiate athletics and developing strong relationships with student-athletes while providing comprehensive sports medicine care throughout their athletic careers.
