Morgan Hornback was hired as the pitching coach for East Texas A&M University softball by head coach Rodney DeLong in July 2026.
Hornback arrived at East Texas A&M following a stint as an assistant coach at Southern Arkansas in 2026. In her lone season with the Muleriders, the pitching staff had an earned run average of 2.01, which was sixth in NCAA Division II and allowed just 5.57 hits per seven innings, ranking seventh in Division II.
Individually, she mentored Emma Duncan, who ranked ninth in the Division II with an ERA of 1.56, while being named a first team All-American by the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association as well as the Great American Conference Pitcher of the Year. As a team, the Muleriders went 48-9 in 2026, winning the GAC Tournament and falling in the NCAA Central Regional, finishing the year ranked No. 13 in the country.
Hornback arrived in Magnolia, Arkansas, following a stint as the graduate assistant at Arizona State. The Sun Devils went 35-21 in her only season in Tempe, advancing to the NCAA Regional round.
She began her coaching career at Texas Tech, with the Red Raiders going 29-21 in the lone season. Hornback was a two-way player for the Red Raiders as well, helping Texas Tech advance to the NCAA Regional finals in 2019.
A native of Oregon City, Oregon, Hornback was a three-time first team all-state selection at Oregon City High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in management from Texas Tech and her master’s degree in organizational leadership from Arizona State.
