Whitley Gym Weight Room

The weight room renovation project in of Whitley Gymnasium was completed in June of 2015, which included new flooring, new lighting, new Hammer Strength weight equipment and an area dedicated for speed and agility drill training.
 
Rubber Flooring Systems, Inc. of Kemah, Texas installed the new AktivProâ„¢ rubber floor over an additional six to eight inches of concrete that was poured to reinforce the floor during workouts. The reinforced area is covered by 14 new inlaid platforms.
 
The new flooring is accented with the Lion head logo along and four ladders for speed drills.  There is also an area for the broad jump for NFL testing and an additional 40 yards of turf installed for speed training.
 
Along with the flooring, all new fluorescent lighting was installed to help brighten the gym. The overall look and design of Whitley Gym was not the only thing renovated, the department also overhauled all the weight room equipment and dumbbells to be used by getting new Hammer Strength equipment. The total cost of the renovation was just over $250,000.  
 
Whitley Gymnasium was originally built in 1935. Whitley Gym has been home to many athletic activities over the years. It currently houses the weight room, football offices, football film and meeting rooms, and a dance studio.Â
