There will be a public service for former
Texas A&M University-Commerce basketball standout Kevin
Widemond on Friday, October 30th, noon, at the sanctuary
of the First United Methodist Church in Commerce.
Funeral
services will be held at the Christian Pentecostal Church of Christ
at 971 Clinton Avenue in Irvington, New Jersey on Tuesday, November
3rd with a viewing at 10 a.m. and a funeral service to
be held at 11 a.m. Plinton-Curry Funeral Home in Westfield, New
Jersey is handling the services.
Widemond
died suddenly on Sunday while playing in a basketball game in
Portugal against former teammate Scooby Johnson.
While at Texas A&M University-Commerce,
the Newark, New Jersey native averaged 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds
and 2.4 assists in 58 games. As a senior, in 2007-08, Widemond led
the Lions to the championship game of the Lone Star Conference
Tournament and earned All-Tournament team honors. As a junior, in
2006-07, he averaged 14.5 points a game and made a team-best 84.7%
of his free throws while earning second team all-Lone Star
Conference North Division honors.
In lieu of flower contributions, the Lion
athletic family asks that financial contributions be directed to
the Kevin Widemond Memorial
Fund.
