Junior Devon Herrman (pictured; photo by Jared
Horn) had her second career hat trick to lead the Texas
A&M University-Commerce to a 5-0 shutout win over East Central
on Thursday afternoon in Ada, Oklahoma.
The Irving, Texas native scored
twice in the first half and added another four minutes into the
second half for the hat trick. Last year, she had a hat trick in
her A&M-Commerce debut against Mars Hill.
A&M-Commerce (7-5, 3-3 LSC) out
shot East Central by a 21 to 8 margin, including a decisive 12 to 4
advantage in shots on goal. In addition to the three goals by
Herrman, freshman Brionna
Minde scored her first career goal.
Lions' junior goalkeeper Randi Hafele recorded her fifth shutout of the season,
making four saves. Redshirt freshman Elizabeth Lanier played the final 9:14 to preserve the shutout.
Ashley Bradford had a team-best
four shots to East Central, who falls to 4-7-2 overall and 0-5-1 in
the LSC. Goalkeeper Natalie Wilson came off the bench in the final
45 minutes to make four saves.
Herrman got the Lions on the board
in the 13th minute when she took a chip shot pass from freshman
Elle
DeFreitas and fired a shot to the left wing for the
early goal and 1-0 advantage.
Less than three minutes later,
senior Chelsey
Haight took a cross from Minde and found the back of
the net to put the A&M-Commerce ahead 2-0.
The Lions stretched the lead to 3-0
when Minde scored from 10 yards out in the 24th minute.
Herrman scored her second goal of
the half when she kicked a shot over the head of the ECU goalkeeper
in the 36th minute. She secured the hat trick off a free kick in
the 49th minute.
Next, A&M-Commerce will next
travel to Northeastern State in Tahlequah on Sunday at noon.
