Former Texas A&M
University-Commerce standout offensive lineman Alan
Veingrad will be one of seven individuals inducted into
the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday morning at The
Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center in Commack, New York.
Veingrad will be inducted along
with two-time heavyweight wrestling champion and former
professional football player Bill Goldberg; Virginia Tech head
men's basketball coach Seth Greenberg; female judo champion
Rusty Kanokogi; Olympic freestyle swimmer Jason Lezak; Penn State
women's volleyball Coach Russ Rose and Achilles Track Club
founder Dick Traum.
Veingrad was inducted into the
A&M-Commerce athletic department's Hall of Fame in 2006.
He was selected first team All-American by the Eastman Kodak
Coaches' College Division in 1984 and earned first team
All-Lone Star Conference honors in 1983 and in 1984. Following his
playing days at A&M-Commerce, he went on to play in the NFL for
the Green Bay Packers from 1986 to 1990 and the Dallas Cowboys from
1991-92, where he was a member of the 1993 Super Bowl championship
team.
The objective of the National
Jewish Sports Hall of Fame is to foster Jewish identity through
athletics, and to commemorate sports heroes who have emerged from a
people not commonly associated with sports.
