Alan Veingrad to be Inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame

Former Texas A&M University-Commerce standout offensive lineman Alan Veingrad will be one of seven individuals inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday morning at The Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center in Commack, New York.

Veingrad will be inducted along with two-time heavyweight wrestling champion and former professional football player Bill Goldberg; Virginia Tech head men's basketball coach Seth Greenberg; female judo champion Rusty Kanokogi; Olympic freestyle swimmer Jason Lezak; Penn State women's volleyball Coach Russ Rose and Achilles Track Club founder Dick Traum.

Veingrad was inducted into the A&M-Commerce athletic department's Hall of Fame in 2006. He was selected first team All-American by the Eastman Kodak Coaches' College Division in 1984 and earned first team All-Lone Star Conference honors in 1983 and in 1984. Following his playing days at A&M-Commerce, he went on to play in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers from 1986 to 1990 and the Dallas Cowboys from 1991-92, where he was a member of the 1993 Super Bowl championship team.

The objective of the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame is to foster Jewish identity through athletics, and to commemorate sports heroes who have emerged from a people not commonly associated with sports.
